Database

Hand with ballpoint pen creates a note

PolMig is currently developing a database of political rights of migrants in Africa. The database will consider the legal basis of the political rights of migrants in Africa. It will provide a comprehensive overview of the diverse categories of migrants, including diaspora, asylum seekers, and refugees. The legislative inclusion of different types of rights (citizenship, voting, rights of expression, association, assembly and international legal protection) is assessed and scored accordingly. The overall score is cumulative, and each right should be considered according to its own merits. Despite the absence of data concerning the implementation of such rights in the database, it provides a distinctive point of departure for analysing the protection of migrants across Africa.

Further information pertaining to the database's background, assessment, and overall scoring will be found in the accompanying codebook.

More details are expected by the end of 2025.
